Abstract

In this study, researchers, who were three pre-service science teachers, analyzed problems in classroom classes based on their experience of teaching practices and suggested plans to improve the problem. Through class observations and interviews with students, the reasons why students show low interest and passive attitude toward chemical classes were derived from teachers' lecture classes, lack of experimental classes, and teachers' low expertise. To solve this problem, researchers identified the educational effects by introducing a class model focused on student activities and introducing experimental classes. Compared to one-sided and instructor-led classes, it was effective in changing students' interests, active attitude, comprehension of concepts, and reasoning skills. It is proposed that teachers should be able to do student-centered classes, encourage students to be able to transform themselves from passive learners to active subjects and should be developed to strengthen links between universities and the field for the better teaching practice.
